Hi, I’m Dawn Atkin and it’s great to see you here.
I’m a creative fire starter, professional and experienced passion-project mentor, consultant, and innovator.
I work with passionate creative people who want to Make A Difference in their lives, business or communities and roll out projects that are good for people and the planet.
Especially people who have great ideas but:
are struggling with uncertainty, lack of confidence or overwhelm;
have a perceived lack of project development and planning skills so their passion-projects are either not coming to fruition or not getting off the ground at all;
and are feeling like time is passing them by. Tick-tock. Tick-tock
I get a thrill watching ideas take flight and creative sparks feeding larger flames.
Magic does happen! Intention is the fire starter.
Action is the magic.
I adore spending time with creative innovative people supporting them to:
Get clear about what it is they really want to achieve.
Develop project development and planning skills that embrace creative freedom and maintain a future focus while dealing with their other day to day life and business demands.
Move forward and Make A Difference with flexible project tools, skills and strategies, clarity and confidence.
Experience first-hand the inspiration and joy that comes with their own personal and passion-project success.
You know you just need to get moving: get some clarity, haul in some focus,
hone your intention and take action to move forward.
And you know you want to get back in touch with the quirky, fun a-muse-ing person you know you are, share your passion-project with the world and make a difference.
And deep down you probably realise you could do with some encouragement and professional tools and support to push through this hump.
I’m so glad you’re here. I know what it’s like to have a niggling feeling of having great ideas but not knowing how to make them happen. It can be creatively crippling.
As a young child I learned to hide my ideas and hopes.
After bullying and teasing I learned to fly below the radar, keep it small and keep my passions to myself. A bit suffocating for a Leo-creative!
I moved to a new country as young child; having a different accent, not being able to pronounce words, wearing different clothes, made me a beacon for attention. Often not good or kind attention.
In my life I’ve watched other people achieve great things with passion and joy and I watched from the sidelines or took on supporting roles – that were shaded from the limelight. And, I admit, sometimes I was a bit jealous and would think ‘I could do that’. But I didn’t.
Heck it even got to the point that I didn’t even know what my passions or interests really were or even if I had anything of value to share.
When I moved to a regional community I quickly discovered if you want something to happen, if you want to make a difference or create some change, then you really have to get that ball rolling.
The truth is other people saw my ability to think and act creatively and see the necessary steps with sparkling clarity. I was doing it for them. All that time I had been using what came naturally and hiding behind other leaders and visionaries; lifting them up and shrinking me down. It was time to get some of my own passion-projects off the ground.
Over the past 15 years I have been very active in the arts, environmental, adult education and community development sectors initiating my own projects and providing gale-force support to others.
It’s only in the last couple of years that I have realised the contribution I have made. The smiles and joys and experiences that other people have had because I released some of my own passion-projects into the world and supported others to make a difference.
So now I get to share my skills and passion with others so they can do the same thing.
I get to ignite my own creative fire by fanning the flames of other people’s passions consciously rather than hiding behind them.
This is my passion.
I get to experience the joy of another having a great idea, breaking it down and getting it done.
I get to blend my feminine, creative, amorphous brain with my rational focused skill-set and, well… make a difference on a daily basis.
And of course, I get to have great conversations with amazing people just like you, who want to do the same.
More about me if you’re interested
All of my professional work has required a creative edge working with imaginative and rational brainers.
I’ve worked as an independent consultant and employee for business, government and the not-for-profit sector in adult education, marketing and communications, social research, community and cultural development and consultation, arts administration, environmental and sustainability field, grants and sponsorship development, project and events management.
All of these areas have required ideas generation and concept brainstorming, flair in communications, problem solving, inspiring people into action, seeing the bigger picture, business development, planning, goal-setting, action-taking.
I realise now that all these skills are the life-sharpened knife edge of my creative streak. They’ve kept me fed, skilled me up, made me feel useful, sliced through projects, obstacles, life stage transitions.
